he drops a kiss to the top of her head and grins. ] Which means it's just going to be us for dinner. [ so they can do something special for it. or, you know. before it. that could work too.
( what? she's been gone two months. he's missed both her and the sex. ) ]
[ the smile that blooms on her lips and is slow and easy when he comments that it's just going to be them for a couple of hours. she lifts her lips to his mouth at that, hands falling to his hips and walking him back against the nearest counter so she can lean in and press the lines of her body parallel to his. ] I missed you.
[ her eyes search his when she murmurs the words, a hand coming up to touch his cheek. she bites her lower lip a second time, because her heart is fit to burst and because the news she has for him is right at the very tip of her tongue.
[ he notices the shaking and the way she bites her lip, and suddenly sex is the last thing on his mind. excitement isn't the emotion his mind automatically assigns to her body language. fear is.
yeah, naomi had smiled at him a moment ago before she pressed him to the counter. but she's acting subdued. she's trembling. and that sets his protective instincts into overdrive. ]
What's wrong? Did something happen when you were gone?
[ it's so like him to turn protector, for his body to tense, ready to fight. it's such a turn on and it makes her feel a little bit weak because how the hell did she get so damn lucky, she really doesn't know.
naomi goes up on the tips of her toes and murmurs yeah against his mouth, her fingers finding his and holding on tight. ] Babe, [ a pause and she drags his hand over her stomach. ] Do you think you'd be okay with me and Yancy calling you 'dad' from now on?
[ please say yes, she thinks. please want this as much as i do. ]
[ for a second, he's thoroughly confused. of course he's okay with being called dad, yancy already does that sometimes. why wouldn't he be okay with it? but then his gaze drops down to where naomi holds his hand to her stomach, and-- oh.

raleigh grins so hard he thinks he may break something. he wants this so badly he doesn't even know how to articulate it. but the way he picks naomi up and spins her around before kissing he thoroughly might be a good indication of how thrilled he is about this. ]
[ she's laughing and holding on and she swears, raleigh is the only guy she actually knows who would do cheesy, rom-com inspired things like whirl her around when he finally draws the line from point A to point B.
he's just such a simple guy, with simple needs, and simple things that make him happy. when he kisses her, thorough and long she leans in again, pressing him back against the nearest wall, she thinks: so, she's only few weeks along, she can pretty much isolate the moment when they conceived the kid and it makes her laugh because they'd been acting like two teenagers making out and getting a little hot and heavy while alone in the house and then they'd heard yancy go wow, I did not need to, geez, you two, Mom, Uncle Raleigh, come on, really? What the hell, okay I am going back out for a run, you crazy kids get a room. ]
So that's a 'yes'? [ she's got one hand on his cheek and another over his heart and she knows the question's redundant but she needs to hear it. she just does. ]

but that idea fell by the wayside for a variety of reasons. having it come back because he's going to be a dad for reals is an incredible feeling. ]

A couple of weeks. [ her heart is soaring because she is actually excited over not ending up an empty-nester just yet, and wow shit, she hopes she doesn't go through ridiculous cravings like the last time, but she doesn't want to think that far ahead.
she'd never given much thought to giving her little girl a sibling ( she'd like a boy, but it's too soon to tell ), hugely because her career had taken precedence and she also didn't know if she wanted to go through raising one more child when hers was a beautiful handful.
but then came raleigh and she'd be lying if she didn't say that she'd wondered about this, wondered what it might be like if she had his kid and well, what do you know - they're pregnant. ] I figured I'd missed my period because it was stress and then mornings on the job started getting rough.
[ she leans her head against his chest, presses a kiss over his heart through his shirt. ] I love you. If I haven't said that lately, let me make up for it by saying it now.
You have said it, but I still like hearing it. [ he presses a kiss to her hair and he still can't stop grinning. ] I love you too.
[ raleigh lets go of naomi, but only so he can drop down to his knees on the tile floor and press a kiss to the space right below her navel. ] Hey there, squirt, I'm your dad. [ yes, he is talking to naomi's still flat stomach and the baby that's growing in there. ] I love you too, even if I don't know much about you yet.
[ he is going to make a wonderful father, and that makes her heart sing. naomi runs her fingers along raleigh's hairline, her thumb tracing the shape of his ear as she looks down at where he's talking to her stomach. ]
Best Dad. [ she smiles, because she knows he will be, because she knows the child growing in her couldn't be more lucky. ]
[ he looks up at her and positively beams. that's something he's been a little worried about over the years--how good of a dad he is. because, okay, he's not technically yancy's dad even if she calls him that sometimes. and it's not like he really has a good model to work off of. his own dad was a distant and self-absorbed asshat who fucked off to never never land when things got tough. yance practically raised him, but he was a big brother first and foremost, and it's kind of weird to raleigh that he was three years older and something of a father-figure.
( but when raleigh things about it, he was a pretty damn good example. things he did for his little siblings are things raleigh finds himself doing for his daughter. what parts of yancy's caring instincts he inherited from the drift make it so much easier to slide into the role of man of the house. )
hearing naomi say that he's going to be a great dad is like christmas come early, and it shows. he kisses her belly and stands, sweeping her into a bear hug. ]
